DEWA launches Strategy Pioneers

Yesterday, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched the Strategy Pioneers, first initiative of its kind in the Middle East, in collaboration with organisations that have achieved excellence and have entered the Hall of Fame for implementing their strategies in the region.

The initiative is in line with DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, drive sustainable development in Dubai, and promote the Emirate as a global hub for trade, finance, and tourism.

DEWA invited all the different organisations that have entered the Hall of Fame in the region to participate in the event. These organisations include the Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Dubai Aluminum (Dubal), Bahrain Electricity and Water Authority, and the Bahrain Ministry of Works.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said: “The ‘Strategy Pioneers’ initiative will serve as a platform for knowledge partnerships and to exchange information, share international best practices and administrative updates in strategic planning and implementation to develop relevant systems and management across government, semi-government and private organisations.”

The initiative has been welcomed by the participating organisations and will include an annual workshop where member organisations will meet to review corporate strategy, strategic planning and implementation and share key achievements. The event will host global speakers on selected subjects in the field of strategic planning and implementation, and seminars on how corporate strategic work can be developed and partnership potential strengthened among members.

GE talks about ecomagination at the Arab Forum for Environment & Development

GE will underline the importance of public private partnerships (PPPs) to steer sustainable energy projects and highlight the added value of its ecomagination initiative in enabling communities to promote sustainable growth at the 6th Annual Conference of the Arab Forum for Environment & Development (AFED). The AFED Conference held on October 28 and 29, 2013, at the American University of Sharjah is focussing on the theme of ‘Arab Environment’ this year.

Tim Richards, Senior Executive for Government Affairs and Policy for GE Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, will moderate a panel discussion on ‘Public Private Partnerships and Financing the Transition to Sustainable Energy’.

Launched in 2005, ecomagination is the way GE works, helping customers save billions of dollars and significantly reducing their environmental impact. With cumulative R&D spend of $6bn targeting $10bn by 2015, GE’s ecomagination portfolio has exceeded targets, growing at 14% CAGR.

Exceeding its environmental footprint targets of 25%, GE has reduced greenhouse gas emissions and water use by 33% and 46% respectively, and generated cumulative operational savings of $275m since 2005.

GE has been a strong supporter of the annual conferences organized by AFED since 2009. A not-for-profit regional non-governmental organisation, AFED brings together experts the civil society, business community and media, to promote prudent environmental policies and programmes across the Arab region.

This year’s session also includes special sessions including a ‘Future Leaders Forum’ where Arab youth will discuss the right of future generations to resources; examples of sustainable energy initiatives in the GCC region; and challenges and opportunities in waste-to-energy.
